He released an album last year, Negro Swan, that actually was met with critical acclaim. After the second album under that monicker, he retired it and became Blood Orange and actually has been way more successful with that name. ![]() Now again, this is all Devonté Hynes as Lightspeed Champion. There isn’t one song I hate and I don’t think I can even pick a favorite. Like, I know you’ve all heard an album and it was purely unskippable. Now I haven’t listened to the second one because I’ve really saved his stuff for when I’m at work and I can put my earphones in and just zone out, but his first album Falling Off The Lavender Bridge is perfection front to back. Hearing Florence’s voice do Green Day, and add in the fact that it’s all acoustic - yeah, buckle in. That’s just the feeling Dev gives off with this act he’s put on for all to hear.Īn EP of covers ranging from The Killers to Sean Kingston to The Dixie Chicks. ![]() Odd., or Bright Eyes, mix in characteristics of Vampire Weekend (especially their debut album), and finalize it by looking through the life of an everyday young guy. I don’t want to say this sounds like that, but if I had to, I would say this: take the indie folk sound of something like Panic! At The Disco’s Pretty. And from the ashes of that band came Lightspeed Champion, Dev’s solo venture into the music world. They (sadly) didn’t make it far, releasing only one album, but with death, there’s rebirth. So I want to take a minute of your time and introduce some of you to an artist that you may have not heard of/may have heard of, but not listened to.ĭevonté Hynes, or Dev Hynes is a UK musician who was once in a dance-punk band called Test Icicles.
